The project Quality Assurance in Solar Heating and Cooling Technology (QAiST) gathered a Consortium consisting of 15 partners, representing some of  the major European (and international) test laboratories specialised in solar thermal energy. During the three-year duration of the QAiST project (June 2009 to May 2012) these experts addressed the current and future challenges for quality assurance in the solar thermal sector.  

Partners in the QAiST project were mainly representing entities (institutes/universities) that have expertise in testing thermal solar systems and components. In most cases testing laboratories have worked in this field for a long time (some for more than thirty years) and are participating actively, in their own countries and at European level, in the development of Standards and Certification schemes.
