On the 2nd of December, ESTIF members convened in Brussels, for the 2016 annual General Assembly. The meeting took place in ESTIF Secretariat offices, an opportunity for all members to visit our working environment, and to feel ‘at home’.

The day-long event, preceded by a thematic workshop day on the 1st, has been an opportunity for the solar thermal community to engage, debate and get to know more on the current trends affecting the sector.

During the different sessions, ESTIF members got to debate key internal issues of the association, as the 2017 priorities, the assessment of the 2016 activities, finances and statutory boards. The Board of Directors has been elected, new members got elected, Andreas Haller from Ernst Schweizer AG, Metallbau, and David Stickelberge from SwisSolar, and Robin Welling has been reconfirmed President (see dedicated article). Participants also got a chance to get updated on key external issues, such as policy developments, and learned about the European Commission Clean Energy Package (see dedicated article), which contains legislation that will underpin solar thermal sector for the next decade.

Two key moments of the 2016 Assembly were the lively debate with the Member of the EU Parliament, and Greens leader, Claude Turmes (see dedicated article), and the now-customary tour de table on market updates from different European countries. Even if, overall, attendance reflected the negative trends in the market, participants expressed high levels of satisfaction both on the organisation, and on ESTIF activities in the items debated during the day.
