EUFORES Advisory Council talks Solar Thermal
Date: 28 Apr 2017Category: Solar Heat News
EUFORES, the European Forum for Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency, held a meeting of its Advisory Committee on the 25 April. ESTIF was one of the organisations speaking, providing an update on the sector. The other was the European Biogas Association.
EUFORES is a European parliamentary network with Members from all major political groups in the European Parliament as well as in the national EU Member States Parliaments. The Advisory Committee meets several times a year and provides an opportunity to exchange on recent developments in terms of RES policy and on specific sectors.
Unfortunately, this meeting was not well attended from the side of the European Parliament. Only one MEP attended, Claude Turmes. The other participants were MEP assistants or representatives from different EUFORES members.
ESTIF Secretary General, Pedro Dias, had the opportunity to present the latest developments in the sector. He referred the decrease in sales in Europe while worldwide solar thermal is one of the main renewable energies in terms of installed capacity, highlighting the important developments in market segments such as solar district heating. He also summarised some of the main views from ESTIF on the Clean Energy Package
There was an interesting debate and MEP Turmes asked the renewable energy sector to come together, with joint positions, getting more visibility and also providing some analysis that can help defend some of the proposals, namely the increased ambition for the article (23) that calls for a Renewable Heating and Cooling scheme.
