FROnT: New conference and final steps

Date: 31 Oct 2016
Category: Solar Heat News

The FROnT (Fair Renewable Heating and Cooling Options and Trade) project led by ESTIF is approaching its end. In order to further promote a level playing field for Renewable Heating and Cooling, the second FROnT conference took place on 11 October in Brussels as official part of the “European Week of Regions and Cities”.

FROnT addressed the main gaps related to information, identified prior to the project:

•             lack of understanding of the real costs of heating and cooling,

•             lack of information and support for national and local authorities which are establishing administrative frameworks,

•             lack of information about the decision-making factors of energy consumers.

The FROnT initiative fulfilled its targets and provided these missing elements:

•             The user-friendly energy cost calculation tool is being tested by the consortium and will be shared in wide extent in order to support consumers to make informed decisions and to promote transparency in energy prices.

•             The report on existing support schemes and their Key Success Factors contributed to improved understanding of RES-HC costs and end user decision factors in order to help establish a framework for more efficient and effective support public schemes, and enhance clear and transparent communication with European consumers. The policy priorities support EU, national and local authorities.

•             The survey provided a deeper understanding of the end-user decision-making process with regard to heating and cooling systems. Elements were identified to develop tailored approaches and efficient measures to enhance the uptake of RES-HC on the heating and cooling market. In addition, different FROnT tools are available to support consumers’ decision.
