Commission consultation on governance of the Energy Union

Date: 10 May 2016
Category: Solar Heat News

In January, the European Commission launched a consultation on streamlining of planning and reporting obligations as part of the energy union governance, with a deadline set for the 22nd April. ESTIF participated to this consultation with a contribution.

The aim of the consultation was to ask all interested parties to i) provide information which could be used in the context of the evaluation of the existing planning and reporting obligations of the EU energy acquis; ii) express an opinion on the possible options to streamline the current framework in the light of better regulation and reduced administrative burden; iii) indicate preferred options for the new governance of the Energy Union.

ESTIF contribution focused on the need to keep binding templates for the National Climate and Energy Action Plans, with separate planning and reporting obligations for areas of the Energy Union where targets are in place, such as for the renewable energy sector. Such obligations should also be kept separated for each renewable energy technology, in order to maintain and improve data collection and policy implementation on less deployed technologies.
