SolarThermal: Increasing Visibility through Harmonised Hashtags

Date: 10 May 2016
Category: Solar Heat News

ESTIF has recently participated to a joint solar thermal sector initiative to increase visibility on social networks, such as Twitter, where a unified hashtag system has been launched. Hashtags are commonly used on social media, particularly on Twitter, where they boost visibility and facilitate research and aggregation of content. By using commonly agreed hashtags for the whole sector, the overall visibility would increase significantly.

The initiative, led by SolarThermalWorld.org, involved as well IEA-SHC. The group identified #SolarThermal as the most well-known and most used hashtag for solar heating content on Twitter, before #SolarWaterHeating, #SHC or #SolarHeating. ESTIF, IEA SHC and solarthermalworld.org agreed to use #SolarThermal as the general hashtag on their Twitter channels.  Technology specific hashtags were also agreed for process heat, district heating and solar cooling: #SolarProcessHeat, #SolarCooling, #SolarDistrictHeating.

The group also decided on contacting large renewable Twitter channels, to disseminate the initiative.
