In view of the European Council meeting discussions on the post COP21 Paris deal, ESTIF has co-signed two separate letters to EU Heads of State and Government, Energy and Climate Ministers, the European Commission and the European Parliament. The letters signed come from two different initiatives, one being led by associations representing the energy efficiency community, and the other one led mostly by NGOs.

The first one, led by the European Alliance to Save Energy, gathered 70 enterprises and organisations in the energy efficiency and renewable energy sectors to ask for the recognition of the huge economic and social potential of a proper interaction between energy efficiency and renewable energy. Hence, this interaction should be fully embedded in the EU climate and energy policies. The subscribers demand a coherent revision of the sectorial legislation in order to strengthen the EU strategy towards a low-carbon economy by envisaging ambitious binding targets and measures for both energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The second letter, led by Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, gathered a coalition of businesses, cities, trade unions and NGOs, calling on EU leaders to act on the Paris Agreement and ensure that EU climate policies are coherent with its goals, through the development of a robust and ambitious European policy framework.
