ESTIF participated in an EurActiv event held on the 24th of February at the European Parliament called “State of the Energy Union: Policy influencers debate the 1st year’s progress”.
This event counted with the participation of the European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic, the Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, and a representative of the Dutch Presidency of the EU, besides other renowned actors on energy policy in Brussels.
VP Sefcovic presented his great ambitions for 2016, named the “Year of Delivery” for the Energy Union. Very important packages will be presented this year, following the presentation of the Winter package (the one including the European Heating and Cooling Strategy) in February and will end at the end of the year with the Renewable Energy Sources Directive.
For solar thermal, the main ones will be firstly the measures for non-ETS sectors, including building and (small) industry, then a package including Energy Efficiency Directive and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and the final one including the RES Directive.
MEPs present alerted to the risks of such an outstanding flow of legislation (eleven foreseen) on energy, calling it a “tsunami” of legislation.
