ESTESC, the European Solar Thermal Energy Standardisation & Certification working group, held its 3rd annual meeting on the 22nd of February in Brussels.

ESTESC is an initiative of ESTIF and the Association of the European Heating Industry (EHI), in cooperation with the German associations BSW Solar and BDH. Currently, almost 40 experts are registered in at least one of the subgroups of ESTESC: Energy labelling, standardization, certification.

The meeting was hosted at EHI's headquarters in Brussels and chaired by ESTESC's chairman, Christian Stadler, from Arcon-Sunmark GmbH.

In what concerns energy labelling, the meeting addressed several issues:

  • Collector label in Europe, including a discussion on the implementation of the Energy Labelling legislation
  • The presentation of the German campaign ‘Sonnige Heizung - immer im Plus’
  • A discussion on the current status of the review of the framework for energy efficiency labelling
  • The presentation of the innovative German initiative regarding the indicative labelling for installed appliances
  • An update on the solar thermal sector initiative, LabelPackA+, led by ESTIF and supported by the Commission
  • The work of the ESTESC Task Force on Thermosiphons

The current work on standardisation was also discussed. Besides the work topics under CEN/TC 312, challenges regarding the tasks under other 'Technical Committees' were also debated.

Finally, the focus was centered on Certification. A discussion about the Solar Keymark Network, the agenda for the upcoming meeting (7-8 March) as well as a presentation on Global Certification were topics tackled as well.

Once available, the minutes of the meeting will be posted in ESTIF's Members-Only section.
