On June 22, CEPS Energy Climate House in cooperation with The Greens, the Greek Energy Forum and the Romanian Energy Center, organized an event to present the Manifesto on "Driving the regional cooperation forward in the Energy Union – South-Eastern Europe: more than just a gas corridor, a lighthouse for Europe", signed by fifteen Members of the European Parliament.
Among the recommendations it was stressed by all participants that the Parliamentary dimension should be actively strengthened in the overall task of generating a high level political dialogue in favor of developing comprehensive cooperation on a broad range of energy issues in South-Eastern Europe within the context of the Energy Union. Furthermore, it was supported that the EU should condition financial assistance to Western Balkan countries to their Energy Community Treaty compliance most notably with energy efficiency, renewable energy and environmental acts.
In the framework of the event, 5 innovative projects/companies from the region were presented:
- EFdeN, Sustainable, Energy Efficient Buildings, Romania
- Melissa Climate, Smart cooling solutions, Bulgaria
- 33 sustainable islands, DAFNI, Greece
- Strawberry Energy, Serbia
- Pipistrel, Slovenia
MEP Claude Turmes characterized the presentations as the most inspiring session he has attended in a very long time, and congratulated the representatives for their innovative ideas and actions.
