Date: 28 Jun 2016Category: Solar Heat News
In the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), the European Commission organised on the 14th June a conference on ‘Consumer-centric approaches’ in smart cities. It featured four speakers from different backgrounds, from local authorities to the private sector, who gave interesting insights in how they deal with consumer engagement, and was moderated by Director Marie Donnelly from DG Energy of the European Commission.
Citizens are consumers of energy and related services in cities, which include the use of data in/for smart appliances. With an increasing importance of consumer-centric approaches it is evident that the impact that could be reached in European urban areas, which hold 3/4 of the EU's population, is huge. Moreover, the success of any smart city solution will very much depend on the level of engagement of consumers in the market.
