In the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), the European Commission Directorate for Energy organised on the 14th June a conference on EU leadership in renewable energy, with a view of debating the true meaning and targets of this ambition, and identifying strategic international partnerships for renewable deployment Europe that could engage in and how these partnerships can foster the deployment of renewable energy in different parts of the world.
The conference, chaired by Director Marie Donnelly from DG Energy, saw the participation of MEP Turmes, and former minister Jean Louis Borloo, among others. It focused mostly on EU role as leader in renewable energy technologies innovation, as well as forerunner in developing supportive policy frameworks and running costs down. It also focused in particular on partnerships with the MENA region, which is seen as a key opportunity for EU industries to exert their leadership.
