Date: 02 Jun 2016
Category: Solar Heat News

The 2016 edition of the Solar Heat Worldwide report, prepared within the framework of the Solar Heating and Cooling Programme (SHC) of the International Energy Agency (IEA), is now ready.

As usual, it presents revised data on employment and turnover: 730,000 jobs and € 21 billion worldwide in 2014 respectively.

And, for the 1st time, the report provides information on levelized costs for solar thermal generated heat (LCOH) for a selection of countries and applications. Indicatively, costs for heating domestic hot water provided by small thermosiphon systems and small pumped systems are in the range of 2–12 €-ct/kWh and 7–20 €-ct/kWh respectively, depending on a number of factors.

Regarding the current state of the worldwide solar thermal market, it is depicted that in 2014, 66.7 mio m² solar collectors were installed, leading to an estimated number of 622 mio m² of collector area by the end of 2015. On the positive side, the market in Latin America grew by 8.1% in 2014, whereas other economic areas decreased by 15.2% in new collector installations compared to 2013.
