Germany improves its Market Incentive Programme for renewable heating (MAP)

Date: 12 Mar 2015
Category:

12 March 2015 - The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety published yesterday, during the international trade fair ISH 2015, its new Market Incentive Programme for renewable heating (MAP) with improved eligibility conditions for the promotion of solar thermal systems. It will enter into force on 1 April.

For Solar thermal the major changes are:

  • Increase in subsidies regarding systems for space heating to 2000 EUR instead of 1500 EUR. Larger systems, with a minimum collector area of more than 14m², receive 140 EUR/m² instead of the previous 90 EUR/m².
  • New hot water systems in existing buildings will be covered by the MAP and will be subsidized to 50 EUR/m², but with at least 500 EUR. Expanding existing hot water installations will also be subsidized.

In addition to the incentive scheme already in place (boiler replacement, combination and heat grid bonuses), the optimization of heating installations will be rewarded, (e.g. by installing an eligible solar system or by optimizing an installation already subsidized in the past).

It is also now possible to choose between the existing subsidies based on size (m²-related) and a new option being output-related.

SMEs will get a special bonus of 10% over and above the regular subsidy; solar support for process heat can be subsidized by up to 50%.

The MAP is Germany’s main programme for encouraging the uptake of renewable heat. In 2015, this is around a 360 Million EUR fund.
