On the occasion of its 4th biennial conference, the European Renewable Energy Council calls for a renewable energy target of 45% in 2030 to meet the European Union’s commitment to reduce green gas emissions for 2050. “… We need a legally binding target for renewables of 45% by 2030 as this would give a clear signal to investors and unlock crucial private investments”, said Arthouros Zervos, President of EREC.
Brussels, 24 May 2011. On the occasion of its biannual Policy Conference (EREC 2011), EREC calls for a legally binding renewable energy target of 45% of final energy consumption in the EU by 2030. This appeal comes as a request to ensure that the European Union delivers on its 80-95% greenhouse emissions reduction commitment by 2050 (compared to 1990 levels) and maintains its increasingly challenged industrial leadership in renewable energy technologies.
