Brussels, 26 November 2009 - Xavier Noyon has been unanimously appointed new Secretary General of the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation (ESTIF) with effect from 01 November 2009
Xavier, a French national, holds French, English and German law degrees as well as a Master in European Affairs. After six years in the IT industry as a sales manager in France and Ireland, his passion for politics and the construction of Europe have brought him to Brussels. Since then, he has specialised in the representation and management of industry associations in the electrical and mechanical engineering sectors (ORGALIME, EUROPERF, ATVEA).
Commenting on the appointment, Olivier Drücke, ESTIF president, said: "We are delighted that Xavier joins our association as the new Secretary General. Not only does he bring a vast experience in dealing with EU institutions, but he is also very familiar with legislative procedures and public campaigning at the European level. Having previously worked in a similar environment, we expect him to further strengthen the positioning of our association in order to achieve an even greater awareness of solar thermal technology."
Xavier will be based at the ESTIF office in Brussels Renewable Energy House from where he will lead the implementation of ESTIF’s strategy and coordinate the secretariat’s activities.
In his opening statement, Xavier underlined the importance of ESTIF’s mission with heating and cooling making up today for nearly half of the overall energy demand in Europe.
The European Solar Thermal Industry Federation represents manufacturers, service providers and national solar associations. Uniting more than 100 members from 19 countries, ESTIF represents over 95% of the European market for solar thermal products. The association coordinates the European Solar Days campaign and biennially runs estec, the world’s largest international conference on Solar Thermal. ESTIF is also a founding member of EREC, the European Renewable Energy Council.
